CCC Pictorial exhibit of the life and times of the Jews in Shanghai in the decade from 1938

Jews in Shanghai features Shanghai, a Refuge during the Holocaust from the Holocaust Education Centre of Vancouver; the story of Chinese diplomat Dr Feng Shan Ho who issued thousands of life-saving visas to the Jews; pictures of the former Jewish settlement in Shanghai; personal experience, artefacts, and records of several Toronto families who lived in Shanghai; and videos including Karen Shopowitz's A Place to Save Your Life.

Professor Guang Pan of the Centre of Jewish Studies Shanghai and author of Jews in Shanghai and Jews in China will be in Toronto to talk about the Jewish experience at a public forum at the Chinese Cultural Centre in November.

Dr Feng Shan Ho, Chinese Consul General in Vienna (1938–40) provided visas for European Jews who were given refuge in Shanghai. Dr Ho was given the honour of “Righteous among the Nations” from the State of Israel. Ms Manli Ho, his daughter, will discuss Dr Ho's story in November.
