I. Services Bridging the Chinese Canadian and Mainstream Communities




  1. Advising the Canadian Opera Company in the development of an educational programme aimed at enhancing school-aged youths' understanding of western and Chinese opera.
  2. Advising mainstream businesses on matters related to Chinese culture.
  3. Devising a comprehensive curriculum on Chinese New Year traditions, art and crafts for school use, and assisting in its implementation.
  4. Mid-Autumn Harvest Moon Festival – activities jointly organised with the Art Gallery of Ontario and under the patronage of the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario in September–October 1996.
  5. Chinese New Year Celebrations – activities jointly organised with the Royal Ontario Museum.
  6. Introducing contemporary Chinese art into the Art Gallery of Ontario.
  7. Production of Chinese opera in English 1995.
  8. Organising East Meets West concerts and events.
  9. Assisting major mainstream cultural organisations, e.g., AGO, COC, NBOC, ROM, TSO, in their outreach services to the Chinese Canadian community.
  10. School Programmes:
    1. Primary Schools:
      1. Cultural Enrichment Programme – 40-minute interactive sessions on Chinese culture
      2. Consultations on Parents' Evenings programmes
    2. Secondary Schools:
      1. Seminars on Chinese culture and local issues
      2. Consulation on multicultural celebrations
    3. Post-secondary Institutions:
      1. Partnership with Centennial College, Scarborough, in offering courses in computer, translation, and doing business in Asia
      2. Seneca College Chinese Students' Programmes
      3. Consultation services to the University of Toronto, Scarborough campus

II. Services to the Chinese Canadian Community

  1. Organising children's competitions in Chinese painting, essay-writing, and singing.
  2. Sponsorship and support of Chinese Canadian artists through concerts, exhibitions, and other activities.
  3. Consultation and referral services for Chinese Canadian scholars, artists, and others in the arts, culture and education community.
  4. Creation of a Chinese Canadian Artists' web site.
  5. Publications on selected topics in Chinese art and culture.

III. General Outreach Services

  1. Chinese language courses: Cantonese and Mandarin at beginner's and intermediate levels, Mandarin for business
  2. Newspaper supplements at Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year, and other important feastdays.
  3. Talks and workshops in schools, seniors homes and public libraries on Chinese culture.
  4. Contributions to magazines in the mainstream community.
