China Study Tour 2007

Objective

To introduce our Canadian youths from 15 to 25, to the rich and ancient Chinese history and culture, as well as in all aspects of the development and changes of modern China.

Itinerary

Participants in the camp will leave Toronto for Beijing on Saturday, July 28. They will stay at the Beijing Institute of Technology for ten days to receive an intensive training in Mandarin and Kung Fu (or Tai Chi), attend seminars on Peking Opera, and learn about arts like paper cutting, Chinese brush painting, music, history and more. They will also visit the must-go places like the Great Wall, the Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City.

After the ten days in Beijing, the group will head to Xi'an by train. Then from Xi'an, they'll fly to Guilin, and proceed to other cities including Yangshuo, Shanghai, and the ancient town of Zhou Zhuang. Famous places to visit include the Grand Mausoleum of Qin Emperor Shi Huang Di (the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses), the Hua Qing Hot Spring, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Li River, the Elephant Trunk Hill, the recently restored historic Garden of Mandarin Yu Yuan, and the Jade Buddha Temple. The trip also includes visits to many museums, special trips to dance and acrobatic shows, a xiao long bao lunch, and a night cruise on the Huangpu River.

All participants will return from Shanghai on August 18.

Fee

$2580 not including airfare (includes accommodation, meals, transportation, admission fees to tour sites, and tuition fee at the Beijing Institute of Technology); or $4200 including round trip airfare
Free preparatory lessons on Mandarin, geography and history of China.
Representative from the C.C.C. will accompany the group.
English-speaking tour guide.

*Not included are visa fee to China, tips for tour guide and travel insurance.
