In 1991, the National Ballet began pairing professional choreographer/dancers with professional composer/musicians to work with children in the school setting. In 1994, they adapted the school project to create a summer camp.

The premise of this summer camp is not to train children in a dance technique, but to encourage them to explore their imaginations and creativity using the disciplines of dance and music. The artists facilitate this process by providing the children with a general dance and music vocabulary from which they can begin to create their own dance and music work. The creativity and self confidence stimulated in this camp will definitely filter into other areas of their lives as well, whether it be further dance and music training or other activities they enjoy.

The culmination of Creating Dances Summer Camp, known as Share Day, will take place on Friday July 18, 2008 in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity for the children to see each other's work, as well as perform for an audience.
