A cultural centre for the large and rapidly growing Chinese community in the Greater Toronto area has been a long cherished dream. On May 2, 1998, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCC) officially opens its doors to serve the public. Located at the southeast corner of Sheppard and Progress Avenues, the 23000-square-foot CCC Building consists of a resource centre, a reception hall, an art gallery, a number of studios for art and crafts, conference rooms, and other supportive facilities. In addition to the cultural focus, the Centre will house an Asia Business & Cultural Development Centre which aims to assist and promote Asian Pacific trade.
The Centre will be a valuable resource in bridging the cultural and communication gap for Canadian businesses. It can help strengthen the ties between the Canadian and the Far East countries. Through contacts and exchanges, the Centre can be a place for these new exciting opportunities which make up the much-talked-about Pacific Rim.
As Canadian businesses are looking to the Far East for opportunities, more and more Canadians are inclined to learn Chinese languages and etiquette. Companies and individuals wanting to learn about the culture will soon be able to access the knowledge through a convenient venue – the CCC. The Centre aims to host annual festive events and academic tournaments on a regular basis, and weekly cultural and educational programmes.
