As we welcome the Chinese New Year, we are honored to share with you the traditional and meaningful performance of the Lion Dance. This performance is an essential part of the celebration and is performed to bring good luck and fortune and to get rid of evil spirits.

One of the most important elements of the lion dance is the use of lettuce. The pronunciation of the word “lettuce” in Chinese is similar to the word for “wealth” or “get rich,” so “catching” or “eating” the lettuce during the lion dance performance is thought to bring wealth and prosperity.

The lion dance is said to have originated from a legend about a small village being attacked by a lion. The villagers observed the lion’s movements and created a lion costume to mimic them in order to drive them away. This legend is the origin of the lion dance, passed down through generations as a symbol of courage, strength, and good luck.

As we begin the new year, let us embrace the spirit of the lion dance and welcome good luck, prosperity, good health, and wealth.
