Commencing in 1988, CCC has taken on various challenges building the centre brick by brick. Presently CCC has a total area of 85,000 square feet which includes the main building in Phase I, a performing art theatre with 626 seats and a multi-purpose hall in Phase II. The Centre is the largest Chinese Cultural Centre and one of the most technologically advanced cultural centres in North America.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Job Summary

The Chinese Cultural Centre Manager provides general oversight of the Centre business, including rentals, programs, marketing, operations, human resources, administration, community presence, and facility management. The Manager effectively plan, manage, and grow the business of the Centre including for the PC Ho Theatre, multi-purpose Hall, art gallery, meeting rooms and programs.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Rental Business

  • Manages the rentals for recurrent and new customers and the client services to provide high level customer satisfaction and fosters and develops long term business relationships.

  • Seeks opportunities to develop rental business and client base, represents the organization to develop new business relationships with producers, community leaders and stakeholders.

  • Solicit potential producers, community and corporate leaders and stakeholders and other categories of prospects with the goal of growing the theatre rental business.

Programs and Marketing

  • Develop a strategy and plan to grow meaningful and profitable programs, and grow the presence of CCC in the cultural and event industries

  • Oversee program development, operation, and administration

  • Develop strategies and oversees marketing plan, connecting with communities and promoting CCC as a credible cultural destination for its programs.

Show and Event Management

  • Manage the Theatre bookings calendar to ensure recurring clients secure repeat bookings and maximize facility usage. Confirm recurring rental requirements and advise potential rental users of available rental dates and related information about various facets of the operation of the Theatre and the Hall.

  • As primary contact point for rental clients, promote Theatre services, collect all required pre-event information to complete contractual agreements. Coordinate preparation of contracts with administration. Follow up with client and make sure all requirements for front-of-house and back-of-house are clearly stated in the booking system.

  • Oversee staff needs for each event, arrange In-house Production Manager, staff and helper for the performance or event day, including Theatre/Event in Charge, in house and part time janitor, usher/usher in charge and helper if needs.

Facility Management

  • Effectively manage and maintain CCC and its equipment in good condition

  • Supervise Superintendent to keep Phase I & II facilities in good sanitary condition.

  • Maintain and keep track Phase I & II service contract. Make sure preventive maintenance is performed by contractor according to service contract.

Operation and Administration

  • Oversee the administration of CCC, including human resources, rentals, programs, operation, capital, financial transactions, according to policy.

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and supervision of staff, for all CCC functions/paid positions, and volunteers.

  • Work with the Board of Directors to define success and KPIs.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience and successful track record in performing arts/cultural venue management and/or equivalent in the cultural industry.

  • College/University degree in cultural management, business or equivalent.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs proficient on Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Strong skills in administrative and reports.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent coordination and time management skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) required

  • Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese considered an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office at the Chinese Cultural Centre – possibility of working remotely due to COVID-19.

  • Work schedule: Monday – Friday Daytime – Flexible schedule includes some evenings and weekends.

  • Presentations to various stakeholders requiring standing and orator capabilities.

  • Valid driver’s license to commute to various stakeholder sites.

  • On-demand to respond to after hour communication issues and/or requests.

  • Compensation: competitive with current market.
